John Montagna: Photos

Instruments

My Spector Rebop Deluxe, w/black cherryburst finish and mother-of-pearl inlays.
The distinctive red winding of a Rotosound Bass Guitar String!
A close-up shot taken by Jilly of my Gibson EB3 in action, most likely at the Bitter End circa 1999-2000.
Enjoying a morning in the Arizona sun with my Washburn Rover travel-size acoustic, a Xmas gift from my wife. (Thanx Jilly!)
Studio arsenal for Jessie Galliante session at Cove City Sound. L to R: Gibson EB3, Spector Rebop Deluxe, and Spector Q4Pro fretless. Only the Rebop and the Gibson made it to tape that day. Meanwhile, Chris Clark warms up his keys in the distance.
Rickenbacker 6-string, owned by Eric Mabuchi of Japan's own Silver Beats.
My 1979 Rickenbacker 4001 bass, seen here at the Paul McCartney 60th Birthday Tribute Show. The bass weighs a ton; playing it while singing "Jet" is quite a workout!
L to R: a classical guitar built by my grandfather, Frank Montagna; Betty, my newly-repaired upright (thanx Dad!), and my Spector Q4 Pro fretless.
Carefully dialing in an acceptable bass guitar tone, at a soundcheck in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Hey Godfrey, I didn't know you can't play the bass! At the Murphy Family home in Florida, plucking the Kay "hootenanny" bass.
A few of my recent plectrums. I prefer red ones, 1.00mm thick ("heavy"), but this pink one slipped in recently. The broken one on the far right was a victim of overly-enthusiastic strumming during the Eren Cannata Dancing Girls Event of May 5, 2005.
Godfrey Townsend doing his best to put on an Epiphone Casino owned by the Silver Beats' Eric Mabuchi; Eric wears his guitars a bit higher up than Godfrey does.
My studio arsenal for Chris Orbach sessions at Mission Sound in Brooklyn, September 2003: (L to R) Carlo Robelli Hofner copy, 1965 reissue Fender Jazz, 1974 Gibson EB3.
Promo shot from summer 2003, done in a hurry at home. Featuring the Robelli Hofner, my '79 Rickenbacker 4001, and my Epiphone 335. I'm holding the Gibson EB-3.
Not my bass, but here it is anyway: Paul McCartney's Rickenbacker 4001, in a photo from my favorite period of his (early Wings, circa '72-'73, note "Red Rose Speedway" sticker). Oh so cool. Wish I could have been there, but I was in diapers at the time.
I was tempted to purchase one of these charangos during our visit to La Paz, Bolivia in January 2005, but funds were tight and so was my suitcase. The 10-stringed instrument does make a beautiful sound, though; I may look for one here in NYC.
